About Us

Started in 1988, Troop 56 is a chartered organization of the Atascocita United Methodist Church with a goal of providing a quality Scouting program to young boys from the area. Now celebrating its 34th year, the Troop has graduated more than 115 Eagle Scouts in its history. Most boys attend Atascocita Middle School, Timberwood Middle School and Atascocita High School. The troop currently has over 30 registered youth and 15 BSA adult registered leaders and volunteers.

Boy Scouting is a home and neighborhood centered program designed to support the values you teach at home. The uniqueness of this program is that the troop is led by the boys with adult supervision. With an emphasis on the Scout Oath, Scout Law and the Scout Motto - Boy Scouting teaches respect for God, Country and People, as well as develops other positive skills including:

Character development
Physical skills
Leadership skills
Health and Safety skills
Getting along with others
Personal growth
Academic skills

The Boy Scout program is based on age-appropriate activities for boys age 11 to 18. The boys are divided into small groups of 6-8 boys (called patrols) usually according to their grade in school. Boys work on rank advancement at troop meetings, at home and at troop campouts. The boys also have the opportunity to experience the outdoors by enjoying a variety of campouts. The troop is also known for its high-adventure climbing activities.

The boys actively participate in various community activities with local organizations, including the annual Rotary Club Dinner, VFW Post and our "Stars and Stripes Across Atascocita" troop flag fundraiser program.
